SIG uses basically the same external extractor in their 1911 line that they have used in the P series for a few decades now, it's pretty bulletproof. If you want to replace it, I've found the Wilson Bulletproof extractors fit a Kimber well. You may want to put a bevel on the bottom of the hook to help the direction of ejection. The rim is not in contact with that surface.

It's not normal but it shouldn't affect your extraction or ejection. The extractor tension was too light resulting in occasional failure to extract. My first Kimber was an Ultra CDP II which came with the same problem yours has. Check the Extractor stickie by Bill Wilson in the Technical Issues forum on this site. Setting your extractor tension won't void your warranty in any way it's routine 1911 maintenance. This quality nickel extractor is compatible with all Kimber or Series 70 style 1911 pistol models in. 45 ACP quality nickel extractor is compatible with all Kimber or Series 70 style 1911 pistol models in. I changed everything multiple times including heavier firing. It was a nightmare to say the least and I honestly don't know what part fixed it. My old IDPA Springfield 1911 9mm started doing the same thing abt 50k rounds.

*Note, in my 1911 installing with both springs resulted in far too much tension. Here's a link to someone who had a similar problem and got it fixed by Kimber. Included instructions were easy to follow. Completely eliminated extraction problems on my 9mm 1911 that no amount of tuning on the original extractor could do. Excellent design, quality and most importantly, flawless function. My brother in law had his extractor break during the first clip of shooting. I have read on several forums where MANY people have issues with their Kimber's right out of the box, it seems like too many issues for such an expensive gun.
